Capoeira (ka.pu'wA-ra)

Capoeira or the Dance of War is a Brazilian martial art developed initially by African slaves in Brazil. Participants form a roda (circle) and take turns playing instruments, singing, and sparring in pairs in the center of the circle. The game is marked by fluid acrobatic play including sweeps, kicks, and heatbutts. Technique and strategy are the key elements to playing a good game. Capoeira does not focus on injuring the opponent. Rather, it emphasizes skill. Music is composed of instruments & song and is integral to capoeira.

Join us Wednesday December 13 & hear more about Capoeira from the founder and mestre (master) of Sacramento's Capoeira Arts Academy, Patrick Hilligan. Plus watch a performance of capoeira. For more information about the Capoeira Arts Academy call (916) 641-2988 www.adbcapoeira.com
